This application scrapes the excellent anonymous proxy list available at Proxy 4 Free (I use to use Stay Invisible), filters them, and renders them appropriately for most applications. For example, the SwitchProxy extension to Firefox plays nicely with this.
I’ve made a copy of the program available for all to use, to which the query string options are:
- c = County – The country by which you want to filter the proxies by, defaults to ‘United States’.
- t = Type – The type of proxies that you want, leave blank for all. Defaults to ‘anon’.
Updated 2005-02-10: Requests are now cached daily. I was afraid that too many requests might upset the server owners, whom provide such an excellent service.
Updated 2005-11-16: Stay Invisible removed their free proxy lists, so I’m now using a different service that seems comparable.

Now my problem is I am technically inept :)

I was able to get this working before. I’m trying to remember what I did from memory, as I’m running Safari as my default browser, atm. There was definitely an option in SwtichProxy that allowed you to specify a URL from which to download the proxy sites. When it does that (and if you don’t want to set up your own scraper) simply specify the URL:
http://ejohn.org/apps/anon/
and you should be good to go. In fact SwitchProxy was the whole reason that I made this application in the first place.

I live in Oman where the one and only ISP censors traffic. All my ProxyPHP web sites I have used in the past are now blocked. You seem quite up on all of this. Any suggestions in being able to surf as god intended? I can not go to web sites to down load anything as they have probebly been blocked.

Guys,
first of all you need good proxy, i mean which is working and you can be sure that is works. Next you need some documentation how to set up proxy in your browser or most popular programmes.
I can help you with both problems :-) I create site especially for this purpose, few my favourite web site was blocked in local network ;-)
So to obtain working proxy go to:
http://proxy-list.org/en/?pp=any&pt=2&pc=any
this url will show you only anonymous proxies, which will allow to hide your IP, for security reasons :-)
Next go to:
http://proxy-list.org/en/howtouseproxy.php
And read how to set up proxy in your browser. After you will done both steps you will be able to see any web site! Except which are blocked by content.
For this reason you will need special proxies HTTPS :-) Some HTTPS proxies could be obtained from the same site but i have not added this option yet, in few days i will add it and after you will be really secure!
But remember never try to do any criminal things using proxies, the guys will catch you and …

Your situation is very specific, it is impossible to visit any web site which is blocked by content. That means, your administrators did not block any specific IP or web site name but they blocked any package which will contain some specific content (text). The packages between you and web site are not encrypted so anybody can read them, especially provider who is doing that blocking.
Only one solution is to use https proxies and secure connection in which all information is encrypted. The best solution is to buy VPN, and to become a part of some f.e. America’s network, in this case you will go through their server and all information between you and them will be encrypted as well. But there is high possibility that VPN is blocked as well in your country. The price for VPN is normally 30$ per month.

As I already mentioned, there is not unique solution for all problems, each problem should be solved in different ways. If you want to remove some simple restriction, you should use any elite proxies which you can obtain i.e. here http://proxy-list.org but if you are interesting in more high security you will need 5 level proxy which is really difficult to find, especially for free. I think you can find some of them on our database (from 17.000).
Please describe your problem in more details and I will try to help you. Write more detail about what site or what kind of sites are blocked, what does block did? You can provide us with some more other specific information which will be useful.

P.S. Remember you should never try to use proxy to break any kind of rule, including you network rules. If you will still try to do this, it means that probably you will be punished by your boss/administrator. just lookup the ip adress of a proxy site and enter that into the adress bar.. They probably have blacklisted the word “proxy” If you enter the ip adress of a site you will get past that! ;-)
