Hi John,
I just a entry level blogger.
I’d like to know what software you using to set up this blog, it really likes a Wiki App, isn’t it?
John Resig (June 2, 2005 at 8:28 am)
Hi Danny – I use WordPress a popular piece of blogging software. It’s rather easy to use, I recommend that you check it out.
Danny L (June 2, 2005 at 9:59 pm)
Thanks John, I got it.
However, why don’t you choose Drupal for your site?
John Resig (June 3, 2005 at 2:07 pm)
I checked into Drupal a while back and it simply didn’t have the flexibility and specific features that I needed. I really wanted to organize my content by very specific categories and put tags on my posts, for example.

Nice site. Have you considered adding a FOAF profile or encoding this page, specifically your contact information, in RDF? Just a suggestion. Cheers.
John Resig (July 7, 2005 at 7:49 am)
Joe I really should! I know there’s a FOAF plugin for WordPress that’s nice, I’ll look into it some more and see if it’s adequate.
Joe Jarvis (July 18, 2005 at 9:47 pm)
I’m considering starting a blog, and have been comparing WordPress, Drupal, and other CMSes. As a “Learn-ed Blogger” (TM), just curious if you could share your thoughts on WordPress, Drupal, etc.
John Resig (July 19, 2005 at 8:08 am)
I’m a big fan of WordPress. I looked at all the different CMSes out there and no other one provided the amount of flexibility, plugins, themes, and documentation that WordPress does. I highly recommend that you check it out and play around with it.

Hey Joe, you might want to check out: http://www.opensourcecms.com/ it allows you to look at all of the open source CMS/blogging systems out there to get a feel for it before you have to install it yourself.
John, love reading your site, and have been “stalking” you for a while now. I am curious what your plans are after college and how many job offers you have had. I would hire you in a second if I had the budget, but would have no problem throwing a suggestion to someone else if you were interested (c:

werty Thanks – glad you enjoy my site! Currently, I’d really like to be able to work for myself after I graduate. I’ve already got my company (http://juniperbay.com/) – and I’m about to launch my first product (http://ideashrub.com/) – so maybe it will pan out after all! Of course, I’m still trying to finish my education ‘just in case’ I do actually need to get a job someday.
I’ve been to Canada a number of times – generally to either Toronto (about 4-5 times) or Niagra Falls (2 times). It helps that I’ve lived in Upstate New York all my life – definitely cuts the travel time down.
werty (August 6, 2005 at 5:51 pm)
Hey John, cool. I hear ya on the wanting to work fior yourself bit… I am in the same boat, but took a job due to growth opportunities and the financial backing at the company.
Anyhow your work is awesome, and if you ever want to hang with some nerds around Toronto let me know.
John Resig (August 6, 2005 at 6:53 pm)
werty – Will do ! I love Toronto – there’s plenty of Perl happenings (the Perl Monger group up in Toronto is very active) and excellent concerts (Depeche Mode is going to be stopping by this fall!) so I will definitely be around.

Hey, John!
Came across your web site on Google, and I had to check it out. While I have to admit that most of your computer/programming discussions are pretty much beyond me, it was really cool seeing the kind of stuff you’ve been working on. Anyway, hope you’re doing well! Maybe I’ll see you over the holidays.
Your cuz,
Dorothy

Well done! John. I am interest in mindmap. But there is no map here, excpt your tag. Therefore it is a good idea to use some tools to make the mindmap. Hope you can show some one? Let’s share and enjoy it.

Hi John,
I’ve been playing with jQuery for the last few days (well, 2 days really) and I have to say that its the cleanest and dare I say it – “purest” JS library I’ve seen. And I love the CSS3 and XPath support, makes clean HTML a real possibility without having to wait for IE to support either well!
I noticed you said Perl is your “language of choice”, but based on the way you’ve written jQuery, I think you may find Ruby to be a better fit to your thinking patterns [even though CPAN may save you the time you gain from having a better language ;) ].

Hi John,
I’ve been playing with a number of Javascript libraries, esp Behaviour, Prototype, and Moo.fx, and I have to say the Jquery is without a question, the most powerful and well-conceived.
It took me a while to get a handle on it, but I see that as a function of its power, and once I did, I’m blown away. Fantastic work, and I hope this project gets more exposure!
Thanks!

Hi John
I came across your site when one of my friends had referred it to me. Since then I found it very interesting, and I wanted to add the feeds from your site into my newsreader, and I did that recently about 2-3 days ago. What I see is that there is not a single feed in my client. Is there any way where I can read the most recent feed, or is it that I have to wait until there is next post on your website.
The rss feed link is: http://ejohn.org/projects/index.rdf
Just let me know how I can fix this issue.
Riaz
John Resig (May 18, 2006 at 6:28 pm)
Riaz: You should subscribe to:
http://ejohn.org/index.rdf
instead of that feed, if you want to see when I post updates to my blog. (which I haven’t updated in a little while, because I’m quite busy).

Hi John,
I’m a 4th year CS student at RIT. I came across your site from a friend’s RIT schedule maker and decided to make my own. Then, I had to check out what brilliant RIT student came up with it and I just wanted to let you know how impressed I am with the breadth of your work. You truly are one of those students who contribute to what RIT’s image is today.
Congratulations on your accomplishments thus far and keep it up!
